dynamic appears in Job, which raises the question of God’s relationship to evil so relentlessly. Toward the end of this book, God appears and speaks at great length, but he provides no philosophical explanation in defense of his ways. God simply reminds Job again and again of his own greatness and of Job’s own smallness. Job’s response is the proper one. He humbles himself and receives God’s answer in faith, demanding no more explanation (Job 42:1–6). This state of affairs should not surprise us
